Martin Speake was with us way back in 2013, so it’s good to welcome him back and in a more traditional quartet setting. In case you don’t know, Martin has done and played lots from “Itchy Fingers” and so much more.
Thomas Conrad says Martin Speake is one of the most interesting and rewarding alto saxophonists now playing jazz on any continent.
On piano tonight, Ethan Iverson, born 1973 in Wisconsin, Ethan has played with a lot of the American greats and has laterly played with the avant-garde jazz trio The Bad Plus. I am assured that he does play jazz! He will bring with him a host of State-side experience.
Fred Thomas joins us on bass tonight, I’m afraid I can’t tell you much about him apart from his involvement in his “Polyphonic” jazz group and as he plays with Martin he must be ok!
Drums tonight are in the young but experienced hands of James Maddren. James started having lessons from the age of ten with Jim Hart, then on to the Royal Academy of Music which led to the National Jazz Youth Orchestra. Now happily he has found time to play for us at Cheltenham.
There’s not much room in the Studio, so be sure to book in time not to miss this special band.
Tickets are £16.00 from the box office: 01242 572573 or on line: www.everymantheatre.org.uk
