The Clark Tracey Quintet at The Everyman Studio Theatre, Regent Street Cheltenham, GL50 1HQ.

Well, here we are, all the turkey curry has gone and we are well into January. To celebrate tonight we have one of our favourite drummers, Clark Tracey. One of the perks of having Clark along is the fact that he brings along a group of hugely talented young players and I’m sure that tonight will be no exception.

On trumpet tonight we have Alexandra Ridout. Alexandra was crowned the winner of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016 at the age of 17. ” We were enchanted by Alexandra’s presence as a musician, her sound, but I think most importantly there was a relationship with the blues and swinging that sounds important in her playing” so says Julian Joseph, Chair of the jury of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016.

Sean Payne is on alto sax, another BBC winner this time, Young Musician of the year, 2014 at the tender age of thirteen. Sean has been playing sax since the age of eight and jazz proper since he was eleven.

On piano, Elliot Sansom, Elliot started piano at the age of five and eventually studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Being a native of Solihull, he is a big part of the Birmingham jazz scene and was another contender in the 2016 BBC Young Musician Jazz Award.

James Owston is on bass, James was another Birmingham Conservatoire student and yet another contender in the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award but this time 2018. So, we have four, obviously talented young people, it will be interesting to hear how Clark has moulded them into his Quintet. I am sure that with Clark’s experience the result will be electric, make sure you book early to hear it!
